NDC Condemns Abduction Of FUGUS Lecturer, Demands Urgent Rescue
By Abdullahi Alhassan, Kaduna Zamfara - The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Zamfara State Chapter, has condemned the abduction of a lecturer at the Federal University Gusau, Dr. Namadina Hamza, and called for immediate government action to secure his release.
Dr. Hamza was reportedly kidnapped from his residence in the Low-Cost area of Kaura Namoda on Monday. The condemnation was contained in a statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Kasim Almustapha Kayatawa, and made available to newsmen in Kaduna on Wednesday.
In the statement, the party described the incident as another evidence of the deteriorating security situation in Zamfara State. “This unfortunate incident once again highlights the worsening security situation in Zamfara State, where criminal elements continue to attack, abduct, and kill innocent citizens with alarming frequency,” the statement said.
The NDC lamented that residents are now living in fear despite government’s constitutional duty to protect lives and property. “The persistent wave of insecurity has left residents living in constant fear and uncertainty, despite the constitutional responsibility of government to protect lives and property,”it stated.
The party stressed that providing security is not optional but a core obligation of government. “Security is not a privilege but a fundamental right of every citizen. It is the primary responsibility of government at all levels to guarantee the safety and well-being of the people,” the statement said.
“The continued failure to effectively address the growing insecurity in Zamfara State is deeply concerning and requires urgent, coordinated, and decisive action.”
The Chairman of NDC in Zamfara State, Alhaji Surajo Garba Maikatako, said citizens have suffered for too long. “The people of Zamfara have endured unimaginable hardship for far too long,” Alhaji Maikatako said.
He added that no place is safe anymore for residents. “Citizens no longer feel secure in their homes, schools, places of work, marketplaces, or while travelling on the highways,” he said. “The time has come for government to match its constitutional obligations with concrete and measurable action.”
The party, therefore, urged the Federal Government and security agencies to act swiftly. “The NDC calls on the Federal Government, security agencies, and all relevant stakeholders to intensify efforts towards the immediate rescue of Dr. Namadina Hamza and every other victim currently held in captivity,” the statement said.
It also demanded stronger intelligence and prosecution of perpetrators. “We urge the authorities to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve security operations, and ensure that those responsible for these heinous crimes are apprehended and brought to justice,” it added.
The NDC said it stands with the victim’s family and the university community. “The Nigeria Democratic Congress stands in solidarity with the family, colleagues, students, and the entire Federal University Gusau community during this difficult period,” the statement said.
The party concluded with prayers for the safe return of all captives. “We pray that Almighty Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) grants Dr. Namadina Hamza and all other abducted persons a safe and speedy return, comforts their families, and blesses Zamfara State and Nigeria with enduring peace, security, and prosperity,” it said.
