Leadership Newspaper Names Governor Idris Governor Of The Year 2026

--Kebbi Governor Cited For Infrastructure, Healthcare, And People-Centred Governance-- 

 Leadership Newspaper has selected Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, as its Governor of the Year for 2026, citing his visionary leadership and delivery of results since assuming office in 2023.

The announcement was made in the newspaper’s edition of Tuesday, September 1, 2026. Leadership said the recognition was in appreciation of Governor Idris’s role in transforming Kebbi State and his commitment to the wellbeing of the people.

The publication noted that the governor has demonstrated firm commitment to good governance through interventions across critical sectors. “Governor Idris has shown remarkable dedication to governance through wide-ranging initiatives in infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, security, civil service reform, women empowerment, and urban renewal,” Leadership stated.

The newspaper further acknowledged the administration’s steady efforts to bridge developmental gaps, strengthen public institutions, boost economic activities, and create opportunities for residents. Since 2023, the Idris administration has pursued an ambitious agenda focused on accelerating socio-economic growth and delivering tangible benefits to the people of Kebbi.

The government said it has recorded notable progress in the rehabilitation and construction of roads, expansion of access to education, upgrading of health facilities, agricultural programmes, workers’ welfare, and urban renewal projects.
“This recognition by Leadership Newspaper reflects the growing national appreciation of Governor Idris’s leadership and the impact of his policies,” the publication said. “It underscores the administration’s focus on inclusive governance, people centred development, and sustainable progress.” The paper added that the award was based on measurable outcomes of government programmes and the commitment to building a more prosperous and secure Kebbi State.  
“The award reflects the tangible impact of the administration’s development initiatives and its determination to secure a sustainable future for the people of Kebbi,” it noted.

In a statement, the Kebbi State Government expressed gratitude to Leadership Newspaper for the honour. “We appreciate Leadership Newspaper for this recognition. We view it as additional motivation to remain focused on delivering meaningful and impactful development to our people,” the statement said.

Governor Idris also restated his commitment to sustaining the pace of development. “My administration remains determined to maintain the momentum of development, consolidate the gains achieved so far, and roll out more transformative programmes that will positively impact the lives of the people of Kebbi,” Idris said.

He added that the award would spur his government to do more for citizens across all sectors.
It will be recalled that last year, Governor Idris received similar honours from Blueprint Newspaper and Lens TV in Lagos. Both organisations recognised his outstanding performance, visionary leadership, and people focused approach to governance.
