Kaduna North Clerics Endorse Abdullahi Umar For House Of Reps Seat
By Abdullahi Alhassan, KadunaIslamic scholars in Kaduna North Local Government Area have endorsed Abdullahi Umar for the Federal House of Representatives seat under the Accord Party, citing his years of humanitarian work as the basis for their support. The religious leaders made the declaration on Saturday during a town hall meeting held in Kaduna North. They said Umar’s commitment to grassroots welfare sets him apart as the most suitable candidate to represent the constituency in the National Assembly.
In a communique issued at the end of the gathering, the Kaduna North Religious Council stated that it was “nominating and backing” Umar because of his consistent intervention for orphans and vulnerable households across the state. “We have observed him over the years. He renders assistance to people long before election season,” said Mallam Adam Idiris Mallamawan Falakin Zazzau, who addressed journalists on behalf of the clerics. “The quiet work he does through his foundation deserves to be amplified on a bigger stage.”
Umar is the founder of the Abdullahi Umar Charity Foundation, an NGO that provides scholarships, learning materials, and feeding support to orphans in Kaduna and its environs. Data presented at the meeting showed that the foundation currently sponsors the full education of more than 400 orphans. It also runs a monthly food relief programme for hundreds of widows and indigent families.
The council stressed that its decision was driven by moral considerations rather than partisan interest. According to the clerics, public office should be occupied by persons with a proven record of empathy and transparency. “Our politics today requires leaders who feel the pain of ordinary citizens,” said Imam Auwal Suleiman of Unguwan Dosa Central Mosque. “Abdullahi Umar has demonstrated that understanding, and he has acted on it.”
Reacting to the endorsement, Umar thanked the religious leaders and pledged to uphold the trust reposed in him if elected. “I did not begin this humanitarian work because of politics. I began it because I saw needs around me,” Umar said. “If the people and the party entrust me with the mandate, I will carry that same spirit of service to Abuja.”
He listed education, youth empowerment, and social welfare as his key legislative priorities, noting that he intends to expand the programmes already running under his foundation at the federal level. Residents who attended the meeting described the endorsement as timely. They said Kaduna North requires a representative who is reachable and understands the daily realities of the people.
The clerics, in their closing remarks, urged voters in Kaduna North to prioritise candidates with a verifiable record of service. “The only path to meaningful development is to elect people who have already served without holding office,” the council stated.
