GUSAU - Pride and celebration filled the air at Command Science Secondary School (Girls), Gusau, on Thursday, 30th July 2026, as the institution held its graduation, speech, and prize-giving ceremony, graduating 25 outstanding students out of a total enrollment of 75.

The event showcased the academic excellence and discipline of the cadets, even as the school leadership raised concerns over infrastructure gaps threatening the institution’s growth.

Delivering her address, the Commandant of the school, Major Fatima Jimoh, said the school has recorded steady progress since it was established by the Nigerian Army in May 2017.
“Since inception, this school has produced 180 graduates who have continued to distinguish themselves. We have also maintained commendable performances in both WAEC and NECO examinations,” Major Jimoh stated.

She listed key achievements recorded under her watch since assuming office in May 2026. “We have restored regular solar-powered water supply, renovated the administrative block, revived the school band, and strengthened discipline across the institution,” she said.

Despite the progress, the Commandant drew attention to pressing challenges confronting the school. “We are currently faced with the absence of a standard science laboratory, a dilapidated dining hall, leaking roofs, and inadequate staff accommodation,” Major Jimoh noted.  “I appeal to the government, the Nigerian Army, and all well-meaning Nigerians to come to our aid so that our girls can learn in a more conducive environment,”
 she added.

The Commandant also called on parents to take advantage of the school’s secure and disciplined setting to promote girl-child education. “This academy provides a safe space for our daughters to thrive academically and morally. I urge parents and guardians to enroll more girls so that we can expand access to quality education,” she urged.

Representing the Special Guest of Honour, Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General WB Idris, Lieutenant Colonel Gezawa Musa assured the school of continued support.  “The Nigerian Army and the Joint Task Force remain committed to providing both operational and developmental support to this institution,” Lt. Col. Musa said.

He charged the graduating class to remain focused and uphold the values of the school.  “To the Class of 2026, be focused as you face future challenges. Uphold integrity at all times and be worthy ambassadors of this great institution,” he said.

Highlights of the ceremony included a colorful parade by the graduating students, cultural displays, intellectual debates, the unveiling of the school magazine, and the presentation of prizes to outstanding cadets.

The graduation brought together parents, military officers, government officials, and well-wishers who applauded the students for their performance despite the school’s current enrollment and infrastructural challenges.
