Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, on Monday courts private investors in Abuja, seeking fresh capital inflow into trade, mining and pharmaceutical sectors in the state. The Governor held strategic talks with executives of Jampur Group at the office of the Presidential Initiative for Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain, PVAC. Jampur Group is an international conglomerate with over 20 years of operations in Nigeria across shipping, power, mining and trade.
During the meeting, the company expressed interest in setting up a facility in Maiduguri for the production of Tom Brown, a nutrient-dense cereal, and establishing a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant in Borno.
The proposed investments, according to the investors, are targeted at addressing malnutrition, improving child nutrition and strengthening healthcare delivery in the state.
Governor Zulum assured the delegation of full government backing, including access to land and other incentives to ease business operations.
“Borno State is open for business and we are ready to support serious investors,” Governor Zulum said. “We will allocate land and provide all the necessary incentives to ensure the smooth take-off of the proposed pharmaceutical company and other industrial projects.”
The Governor highlighted Borno’s geographic advantage as a major reason investors should consider the state. He described Borno as a gateway to markets across the Northeast and beyond.
“Borno occupies a strategic location that gives direct access to the entire Northeast region and five neighboring countries,” he said. “Products manufactured here have huge market potential. This makes Borno an attractive destination for investment.”The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, who was present at the meeting, commended the initiative and said it aligns with federal efforts to strengthen local pharmaceutical production.
The Director-General of PVAC, Dr. Abdul Mukhtar, also attended the meeting. He described the partnership as timely in driving healthcare value chain development in underserved regions.
Also speaking, the Country Manager of Jampur Group, Mohammad Asad Javeed, said the company was encouraged by the state’s commitment to rebuilding and economic recovery.
“We have been in Nigeria for over two decades and we see Borno as a new frontier for growth,” Mr. Javeed said. “Our interest in Tom Brown production and pharmaceutical manufacturing is to contribute to nutrition and healthcare while creating jobs.”
Governor Zulum was accompanied by the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Professor Baba Malam Gana, and the Special Adviser on Monitoring and Evaluation, Engr. Baba Bukar Gujibawu.
The state government said further engagements with Jampur Group will continue in the coming weeks to finalize modalities for the proposed investments.
