The Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency, Hajiya Zubaida Umar Abubakar, has applauded Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, for his prompt handling of emergencies and his visible push for development across the state.

She gave the commendation in Abuja during an advocacy and courtesy visit by the Kebbi State Governor’s media team.
Hajiya Zubaida said tangible progress in Kebbi under the current administration was undeniable. “With Governor Idris Kauran Gwandu at the helm, infrastructure has improved significantly. I am not speaking from reports alone. I have witnessed some of these changes personally,” she said.

She recalled responding to a security situation while in Kebbi. “When that incident occurred, the governor acted without delay. He responds to issues the moment they arise,” she stated.

The NEMA chief also highlighted investments in the education sector. “The recruitment of 2,000 teachers, the donation of buses to higher institutions, and the success of Kebbi students who designed a community flood alert system and earned awards reflect serious commitment to education,” she noted.

On public safety, she pointed to the impact of solar-powered streetlights. “These lights have transformed communities. They have improved nighttime movement and made the environment more secure,” she said.

Hajiya Zubaida further noted that the governor’s responsiveness had strengthened ties between Kebbi and NEMA. “I recommended a stronger NEMA presence in Kebbi. Before my departure from the state, the governor had already moved on it. That is responsiveness in action,” she said.
She also recognized the state’s readiness for seasonal floods, particularly along the Rima and Niger rivers.

“The government has consistently followed climate forecasts and annual flood predictions. The State Emergency Management Agency has equally been proactive with early warnings and local emergency structures,” she observed.
Turning to agriculture, the NEMA DG cited Kebbi’s advantage in rice farming. “I saw the turnout of farmers and the support equipment provided by the government. It is clear that agriculture remains a key focus,” she said.

Describing Governor Idris as a people-oriented leader, she added: “Effective governance involves listening. Governor Idris attends to matters of security, education, disaster response and other pressing needs.”

“We have leadership that fosters unity. With this approach, there are no limits to what we can achieve,” she said, while advocating greater inclusion of women in development initiatives.

Speaking earlier, the Kebbi State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed, explained the purpose of the visit. “This is part of our engagement with partners and institutions that have supported the Kebbi State Government,” he said.  “We are meeting with the NEMA DG due to her strategic role and the cordial relationship she shares with our state". Alhaji Yakubu outlined key achievements of the administration.

“The governor has recorded notable progress in infrastructure, healthcare, education and security. Long-standing challenges in roads, hospitals and schools are being addressed,” he said.

“He has also enhanced the welfare of health workers, employed 2,000 teachers, constructed and rehabilitated schools, provided teaching materials, and equipped security agencies with vehicles and motorcycles,” he added.
He urged NEMA to continue backing the state’s development agenda.

The Commissioner was accompanied by: Alhaji Yahaya Sarki, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity; Alhaji Aliyu Bandado Argungu, Special Adviser on New Media; Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakar Jombali, Special Adviser on Public Enlightenment and Orientation; Alhaji Abdullahi Idris Zuru, Special Adviser on Strategic Communication; and Alhaji Ahmed Idris, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor.
