Brig.-Gen. Ahmad succeeded Major General Ahmadu Bello Mohammed, who has completed his tour of duty at the premier military training institution.
This was disclosed in a statement issued to journalists in Zaria by Captain Chikadibia Viola Anele, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Depot Nigerian Army.
Captain Anele said the outgoing Commandant expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, NAM, for the opportunity to serve.
“I am grateful to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for giving me the opportunity to contribute my quota to the training of officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army,” Major Gen. Mohammed said.
He also acknowledged the support he received from other commandants within Chindit Cantonment.
“I appreciate my colleagues, the Commandants of the Nigerian Military School and the Army School of Physical Training, who graced the occasion,” he said. “I also thank my staff officers and instructors for their loyalty, dedication and cooperation throughout my tenure.”
Major Gen. Mohammed urged personnel to extend the same support to his successor.
“I encourage you all to give my successor the same cooperation and commitment,” he said. “Our collective effort is for the growth of this institution, the Nigerian Army and the nation.”
In his remarks, the incoming Commandant, Brig.-Gen. Usman Ahmad, thanked the Army leadership for the appointment.
“I am honoured by the confidence reposed in me by the Chief of Army Staff and the high command to lead this historic institution,” Brig.-Gen. Ahmad said.
He pledged to sustain and improve on the training standards of the Depot.
“I will not only maintain the existing standard, but I will also build on it,” he said. “My focus will be to produce well-trained, disciplined and combat-ready soldiers who are fit for the tasks of the Nigerian Army.”
